20 years ago, I was behind a counter in Seattle, pulling shots and living the three-year whirlwind of owning a cafe. It was the bean-to-cup dream, but I was limited by four walls and a sidewalk.
Life took me into tech, but the coffee itch never left. When I decided to come back as a roaster, every platform I tried treated coffee like a generic SKU. They didn't know the difference between a washed Ethiopian and a dark Sumatran.
So I built the thing I wished existed. No team, no investors, no magic — just months at my desk, fueled by my own home roasts and a belief that coffee deserves better tools.
Artisan Roast is open source because your beans and your data belong to you. I built it because I needed it, and I'd rather share it than keep it to myself.
